Post Graduation: You Can Talk Yourself Through It

Another graduation has come and gone at North Dakota State University. Excitement and anticipation consume the graduates - along with nerves about their futures.

As college students, we get into a routine. Some juggle part-time jobs, clubs and school. Some are under pressure to keep a scholarship. We continue with these routines throughout our college careers, and it's hard to know what routine we will be getting into after graduation. What can we do with our majors? What should we look for in a job?

Though communications is a broad degree, it's a skill that's applicable and desired in many careers. Some NDSU graduates will be getting careers in human resources. Some will find jobs in marketing, public relations, and advertising. Others will take on media, law or education. The sky is the limit - and communication is key.

Communications can cover an exciting variety of careers. After college, it's hard to get into a new routine and adapt to change. However, we have learned how to communicate effectively in different settings, and we will be at an advantage in our future careers.

Fear of the future is inevitable, but my advice to graduates is this: don't worry, you're a communication major - you can talk yourself through it.
